Until now the web app was the recorder, and the serious tools lived on desktop. That split is gone. Both platforms are built from a single codebase, so the Start screen you open in Chrome is the same Start screen the desktop app boots into, and every workspace behaves identically: import a manuscript, prep the read, cast characters, record line by line, export the book.
One feature stays desktop-only on purpose: AI proofing. It runs a speech model on your machine, and that is exactly the kind of work a native app does best.
The desktop app is free on every plan
Downloading Medrak for Windows costs nothing and requires no upgrade. It adds unlimited local storage (your audio lives on your own disk, no quota), full offline recording, and on-device AI proofing. Same account, same projects.
New plans, and a real trial
Every new account now starts with a 14-day trial of everything: audiobooks, collaboration, proofing, all of it, with no card. When it ends you keep a free tier for basic line-by-line recording, and the plans are simple:
- Free teleprompter recording and WAV export.
- Creator ($19/mo) the full solo recorder: speech auto-scroll, punch-back, the DAW-style timeline, alternate takes, and two audiobooks.
- Narrator ($39/mo) unlimited audiobooks, the pronunciation panel, AI proofing on desktop, and collaboration on shared books.
- Studio ($79/seat/mo) run full multi-narrator productions with your whole cast.
